A Missionary’s Life :: Hockey Games & God Did Moments

It’s time, yet again, for our Friday Update!

This is the blog we post every week,

reflecting on all the random things we’ve been up to in life.
Hope you enjoy it!

I Love Rock & Roll.
Do you hear Joan Jett in your head now?
Perfect! Now you’re in the mood to see my first set of iStock photos!
This month we started modeling for our friend’s iStock business. My
first shoot was a ‘Rockstar’ shoot. Shawn hasn’t had a chance to edit
and put up all the pictures yet, so there are more to come…but you
can check out the first 25 here! We had a lot of fun doing these (it
was hard to keep a serious face! I laughed between every shot, haha!)
So if you know of anyone looking for pictures for a music
advertisement, album shots, or anything along those lines, send them
that link 😉 I’d love to hear what you think!

God Did
moments.
If you’re a regular reader, then you know that I was recently
diagnosed
with a serious issue with my spine (neck) being bent the
wrong way. Chiropractic treatment is necessary, but EXPENSIVE!  We
don’t have the insurance or the savings to cover the cost of that
treatment. Lucky for us, GOD stepped in! The doctor, who’s a Christian,
agreed to give us a huge discount on my treatment.

We agreed on a monthly payment of $80, and went to my first appointment. That afternoon, we got a check in the mail from a
supporter. They had NO idea about our new need, but wanted to send us
money personally as a blessing. You know how much?

$80 a month.
The EXACT AMOUNT WE NEEDED.

Our
mouths dropped, and then we burst out laughing! This is what Rusty and
I call a “God Did Moment” – those moments God steps in and shows up in
our lives in an unmistakable way. We never want to miss or forget
moments like that – they strengthen our faith and make us more
thankful. We’re even thinking of starting a “God Did” book, where we
can keep a record of His faithfulness!

Go
Red Wings!
If you’re one of our Southern readers, you may not know who
the Red Wings are. That’s the name of the NHL Hockey team here in
Detroit, and Rusty and I went to our first game this week. IT WAS A
BLAST!!! I’ve never watched hockey, but I will now! We had SO much fun
at the game (even if our seats were nosebleed section 😉 I get bored by
baseball, golf, and even basketball…but HOCKEY is like football – if
you want to smash someone into the wall, it’s ok! YAY!

Waiting outside – there was a huge line an hour and 1/2 before the game!

We snuck down to the ice to watch warmups – so fun!
Except I was terrified I was going to get hit by a puck!

In our seats…nosebleed section but it was still a BLAST!

Someone got engaged! Congratulations Krista and Jake!

After the WIN! Check out all those banners – they are one of the best teams EVER!

God, Church, and Religion. Three topics NO ONE wants to talk about outside of church! That was Rusty’s experience anyway, when he tried to do a little survey of people here in Michigan for his latest video project for our church. Their responses will really get you thinking! Check it out here:

Pictures from around the
world.
That’s what I’ve been wanting up in our dining room since we
moved in. It has taken almost a year to get really settled in our home,
and I’m still decorating here and there along the way. The dining room
has been a BIG undertaking. I have been ‘collecting’ wooden frames for
11 months (every time I found a unique one on sale). Then came the daunting task
of choosing which of our pictures to frame (out of THOUSANDS), editing them,
printing them, and finally, hanging them.

I finally finished
this project on Saturday, and I’m SO excited about the final product!
Pictures don’t really do it justice, but I will put some up anyway so
you can get an idea 😉

Before :: Well, really during. I was framing pictures on the table, which is why it’s a mess!

After! The walls are now covered in pictures from our time all around
the world!
I love getting to look at all our memories, sharing them
with friends,
and being reminded to pray for the people and places in
the pictures!

The left wall….

Left to Right:: Worship in India, Rusty and I in Swaziland, Nat (a sweet little boy in Swaziland)

Rusty’s Adventures! His squad in Cambodia at Angkor Wat,
Rusty at the Great Wall of China, on a mountain ridge in Bolivia, and at Machu Pichu in Peru!

Ericka’s Adventures! A lion and tiger I photographed in South Africa,
and my awesome J-Bay Team at debrief!

The right wall…

A photo of the Taj Mahal I took in 2008…

Left to Right:: (top) Rusty and Ray in Thailand at a church they cleared the land for,
me with some children in Southern India (Rajahmundry), me at the Red Mosque (beside the Taj Mahal) (bottom) Rusty at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Rusty being baptised in a river in Thailand, me holding a lion cub in South Africa.

That’s all we have this week… thanks for reading! Have a happy Friday and a great weekend!
