So sorry for the delayed update! It’s been a busy week of transition and then a few days of waiting to get our internet hooked up. So, for those of you wondering if I froze along the way…

WE MADE IT TO MICHIGAN!

Rusty and I left on the 18th, with the help of my wonderful Mom and Dad who drove up to help us pack and clean. After a little bit of a teary goodbye, we hit the road for our long drive…almost 800 miles!

We drove all day (correction, my sweet fiance drove all day while I napped πŸ˜‰ and made it to Cincinnati, OH around 7:00pm. There, we had a wonderful night with Rachel Hunt and her family who fed us and gave us a place to stay for the night. You guys are the best- thanks for blessing us!

The next morning it was up again and on our way – this time in the SNOW! We drove our last 5 or so hours and finally made it to Port Huron, Michigan with snow all around us.

So here we are, in our new ‘home’! Here’s the set up:

Until we get married, I will be living in a house with Kim, Caroline, Andi, Sarah, Matt, & Jake from Rusty’s World Race Squad. (Don’t worry parents- the house is 3 stories and used to be 3 separate apartments. Guys and girls are on separate floors πŸ˜‰  We’ll be working in our office space in the basement. Here’s a picture of us in front of my house:

Meanwhile, Rusty will be living with Michael and Kathy. They have been so gracious to invite him into their home until we get married and find a place of our own. It’s only about 10 minutes down the road and it’s so nice to be this close to each other! Here’s a picture of us in front of their house:

The past week has been spent moving in. We’ve been trying to unpack and get settled, though I’m finding it’s a slow process. There have definitely been some ‘adjustments’ – the first night brought the difficult realization that I am 12 hours away from my family and most of my friends. There have been some tears, and in those moments I’ve been thankful for my amazing fiance who has been so patient with me and so loving. I’m also thankful for my new community here who has loved me, comforted me, and prayed with me. While I miss my old roomies, it’s a huge blessing to have such wonderful new roommates!

Above all, I am resting in this amazing peace I have that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be.  God has been faithful to remind me of that truth often. Even in the unfamiliar, the difficult, and the COLD!

Here’s a picture of the weather forecast from my first week here:

And for this week- notice the 3 days of SNOW forecasted!

But for those of you worried- I’m surviving that too- thanks to God, layers, my snow boots (thanks Plain Sue!), my new space heater, and plenty of hugs from Rusty πŸ™‚

Stay tuned for more updates soon! I can’t wait to tell you more about our home, my new roommates, and the INCREDIBLE new church we have here. Until then, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your prayers and support! You bless me more than you know!

  1. Sorry – my computer just went crazy before I finished. I’m so thankful that you made it safely and that you’re adjusting just FINE (thanks Rusty for all the hugs…give her a big one for me please). I knew you would – God is so GOOD! He’ll supply your EVERY need just keep trusting in Him! Can’t wait to hear more and especially see the pictures. Your houses are both beautiful…can’t wait to see what you two find for you to move into after the wedding. Love you BUNCHES, Mom

  2. I would have looked at your weather forecast and had the utmost of sympathy… But it was under 25 degress here in TEXAS for two days this week so I’m too busy having sympathy for myself. πŸ™‚

You guys are awesome and life is going to be great for you in Michigan… Especially if you remember to return phone calls from your long lost southern friends! πŸ˜‰
