Swaziland’s Gift
A few days ago I was checking in on a friend of ours, Pastor Gift, by reading his blog. Gift is Swazi, and he and his family (his wife Philile, and his three children Nothando, Nduduzo, and Okuhle) serve as missionaries to their own people in Swaziland.
While reading his blog I found myself in tears as I was reminded of the desperation in Swaziland. Back in America it’s easy to forget just how bad it is there. For Pastor Gift and his family, it’s not so easy. His latest story shares his experience with a starving woman knocking at his door to beg for food. She is struggling to raise the grandchildren that her dead children left behind. He gave her the only food he had in the house; bread he was saving for his daughter.
The entry before that shares the story of a 13 year old girl named Grace who was raped by a 40 year old man. He infected Grace with HIV. The man was put in jail but is about to be released. Grace is now almost 16 and TERRIFIED. She lives with her widowed mother and siblings in a mud hut that is unstable and unsafe. They cannot even lock their door to keep this vicious rapist out!
This is daily life in Swaziland. The life that Pastor Gift and his family face every morning. Please remember to pray for the people of Swaziland, and to pray for Pastor Gift, Philile, and their children! They are truly being the hands and feet of Christ to their country!
